MINISTER OF TRADE: INDONESIA IS READY TO COMPLETE THE IEU-CEPA IN 2024

Indonesia is ready to complete negotiations on the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) in 2024, according to the Minister of Trade, Zulkifli Hasan. He expressed his objections to the EU's new environmental policy regarding deforestation, which could negatively impact the Indonesian agricultural sector, especially for small farmers. The European Union published the Deforestation and Forest Degradation Regulations on June 9, 2023, which requires due diligence for certain agricultural and forestry products. Indonesia supports the multilateral trade system and hopes other countries will respect Indonesia. Currently, there are three cases between Indonesia and the European Union at the WTO: the ban on Indonesian nickel exports (DS592), the European Union's policy on palm oil products (DS593), and the imposition of reimbursement of import duties (BMI) and anti-dumping duties (BMAD) on Indonesian steel (DS616).In January-April 2023, total trade between Indonesia and the European Union was $10.28 billion, with Indonesia's exports at $5.91 billion and imports at $4.37 billion. In 2022, total trade between the two countries was $33.16 billion, up 13.98% compared to the previous year. Indonesia's main export products to the European Union include palm oil, industrial monocarboxylic fatty acids, coal, copper ore, concentrates, and footwear with rubber outer soles.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3600237/mendag-indonesia-siap-selesaikan-ieu-cepa-pada-2024 (ICE GIACARTA)
