NICOSIA TOURISM BOARD JOINS REGENERATIVE FOOD PROJECT

The Nicosia tourism board (Etap) announced this week that it is participating in the Food Zone project, which aims to support the skills of food producers, SMEs, and the local tourism ecosystem through the development of regenerative food tourism experiences.  According to a statement by Etap Nicosia, the project has a duration of 30 months and a total budget of €250,000.  “Food Zone is an Erasmus+ co-funded project aimed at supporting and developing the skills of food producers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the overall tourism ecosystem in mountainous and remote areas,” the announcement explained.  The project’s focus is on the development of gastronomic tourism experiences within the framework of regenerative tourism and tourism revival.  The main beneficiaries of the project are the Commercial and Industrial Chamber of Cáceres in Spain, Etap Nicosia in Cyprus, and the organisations Eurakom in France, Domspain in Spain, Lanara Consulting in Slovenia, the Municipality of Tivat in Montenegro, and the University of Aveiro in Portugal.  Among other activities, the project will study and record best practices on an international level.  At the same time, it will conduct large-scale research to identify challenges and obstacles faced by food producers in the development of such experiences.  “Based on the findings, a specially designed platform and educational materials will be created with the aim of training food producers and other small and medium-sized tourist businesses in mountainous and remote areas,” the announcement explained.  “To facilitate this training, interactive workshops will be held in all participating countries, along with the rapid incubation of new gastronomic experiences through the ‘Food Zone Blended Incubator’ within the framework of regenerative tourism,” it concluded.
