KAZAKHSTAN-GEORGIA-RAILWAYS-AGREEMENT

Railways of Kazakhstan and Georgia ink agreement on JV creation for development of Trans-Caspian Transport RouteNational Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (KTZ) and Georgian Railway JSC have signed an agreement on principles for the establishment and operation of a joint venture to support development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), the press service of the Kazakh government said in a press release on Friday.The document was signed as a result of the talks between Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov and Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili.A similar agreement was signed on Thursday in Baku with Azerbaijan Railways CJSC.A number of individual and expanded meetings were held in Tbilisi during the official visit of the Kazakh prime minister to Georgia.Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia will create a joint logistics company that will deal with tariff issues and cargo handling operations and will ease the TITR procedures.The use of TITR for cargo transportation between China and Europe will reduce the travel time to 10-15 days, according to the press release.The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), also known as the Middle Corridor, is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and further to Turkey and European countries. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna. KTZ operates the country’s railways, the infrastructure of seaports and airports, transportation and warehousing facilities. (ICE ALMATY)
