Pertamina (Persero) plans to sell bioethanol fuel in Indonesia, with a market trial of 5% bioethanol Pertamax gasoline (E5) in Surabaya, East Java. Pertamina's management has not disclosed the price of bioethanol fuel, but it claims that the octane level in Pertamax will increase from RON 92 to RON 95, keeping the price competitive with fuel in its class. Chairman I of the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) Jongkie Sugiarto declined to comment on the impact of Pertamina's bioethanol fuel launch, stating that automotive manufacturers must prepare their car products for this type of fuel. Honda Prospect Motor's Business Innovation and Sales & Marketing Director Yusak Billy stated that no Honda products marketed in Indonesia have been specifically designed to consume bioethanol fuel. Honda's current direction is to make gasoline engines more energy efficient and lower in carbon emissions, while transitioning towards electrification-based vehicles with hybrid engines up to a full battery.Billy said that Honda will continue to monitor developments in bioethanol use for the Indonesian market. Toyota Astra Motor Vice President Director Henry expressed appreciation for the plan to implement bioethanol, as it reduces the use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions in addition to vehicle electrification.
