EC TO CO-FINANCE HIGH-SPEED RAILWAY LINE IN CENTRAL POLAND

The European Commission (EC) has offered EUR 65.9 million to the Central Transportation Hub (CPK) company for the construction of a high-speed railway line connecting Warsaw and Lodz in central Poland where the massive air, road and rail hub is to be built.The 140-km long high-speed railway line is planned to reduce by around 50 percent the travel time between the capital of Poland and Lodz, with the CPK airport to be included in the railway network.The value of the entire construction project is estimated at around PLN 350 million (EUR 79.5 mln), including PLN 290 million (EUR 65.9 mln) or 85 percent in EU funds.Work on the construction of the Central Transportation Hub (CPK), a massive air, road and rail infrastructure project initiated by the Law and Justice government, is planned to begin in mid-2023. It is expected to become fully operational by the end of 2027. In its first phase, it is expected to service 40 million passengers a year, but its capacity could eventually rise to 100 million.
