EXPENDITURE OF INDONESIAN POPULATION INCREASES, SAVINGS DECREASED

Indonesian per capita expenditure has increased due to rising food and fuel prices. In September 2022, per capita spending was IDR 1.39 million, up 8.71 percent from September 2021. This increase in spending is attributed to rising food and non-food commodities such as rice, wheat flour, and granulated sugar. The increase in food spending is expected to lead to an increase in income, especially for the lower class, as the country enters the Covid-19 endemic period. The government has set new highest retail price (HET) for staple foods since 2022, increasing prices for cooking oil and medium rice. The government also set a sales reference price (HAP) for granulated sugar at the consumer level. This has led to increased consumption and eroded income in various expenditure groups. The National Food Agency (NFA) launched the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) program to maintain purchasing power and anticipate El Nino's impact on staple food prices. The GPM program aims to maintain food price stability at the consumer level, especially ahead of Eid al-Adha, and to prevent production declines and increases in food prices.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/06/26/pengeluaran-penduduk-ri-meningkat-tabungan-tergerus (ICE GIACARTA)
