The Indonesian government has imposed a requirement for palm oil entrepreneurs to report their entire plantation area to the Siperimbun reporting portal from July 3 to August 3, 2023. The government has formed a Task Force for Improving Governance of the Palm Oil Industry and Optimizing State Revenue to monitor the reporting process. The Task Force will summon and confirm distorted data if it is considered inappropriate. The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association, Eddy Martono, praised the government's efforts, stating that the registration of land areas and permits will make the industry more credible and appropriate for policymaking. However, there has been overlap between oil palm land and forest areas, making it difficult for business actors to make informed decisions.The Task Force aims to accelerate the resolution of this issue and act as an arbiter, ensuring certainty in business operations. The Task Force will be tasked with establishing and implementing strategic policies, taking necessary breakthroughs, taking legal action, and conducting an inventory and mapping of state rights originating from taxes and Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for the use of oil palm land and productivity. The legal approach to resolve the overlapping issue of oil palm plantations is ultimum remedium, prioritizing administrative sanctions for parties operating in forest areas before the Ciptaker Law was passed on November 2, 2020.
