The meeting, which was supposed to consider the proposal for a national referendum on the question "Do you agree for the Bulgarian lev to be the only official currency in Bulgaria until 2043?", an initiative committee consisting of citizens with voting rights on April 7 and supported by Vazrazhdane.The Legal Affairs Committee did not include in its Wednesday agenda consideration of the proposal for thereferendum.Speaking to journalists, Vazrazhdane MP Deyan Nikolov, who is also a spokesperson of the Initiative Committee forthe referendum, described what happened as “a shameful escape”. People who call themselves democrats showedhow they do not respect civil society in Bulgaria at all, do not respect the laws and democratic principles, he said.Vazrazhdane expressed the expectation that the referendum will enter the plenary for consideration nextweek. The legal deadline is three months and expires on July 7, Nikolov pointed out. The National Assembly isobliged to come up with a decision to hold the referendum. (ICE SOFIA)
