LUHUT VISITS IMF TO DISCUSS REQUEST TO CANCEL NICKEL EXPORTS

Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan plans to visit the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss the IMF's request to remove the nickel export ban policy. Spokesman Jodi Mahardi said that Coordinating Minister Luhut will meet with the Managing Director of the IMF around the end of July or early August to explain Indonesia's vision regarding downstreaming. The Indonesian government expressed gratitude for the IMF's perspective and expressed its commitment to building a sustainable and progressive economy. The downstream concept includes increasing added value and stages up to recycling, which are integral to maintaining the balance of the ecosystem and promoting sustainability. The Indonesian government will carry out the initial stages in Indonesia, but the next stages can be carried out in other countries, in line with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution article 33 paragraph (3).The IMF has previously urged Indonesia to consider a policy of gradually eliminating nickel export restrictions, but not extending restrictions to other commodities. The IMF Executive Board document Concludes 2023 Article IV Consultation with Indonesia provides notes regarding nickel downstream plans in Indonesia, stating that policies must be based on an analysis of further costs and benefits, as well as considering the impacts on other areas.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3611466/luhut-sambangi-imf-bahas-permintaan-pencabutan-ekspor-nikel (ICE GIACARTA)
