The Central Statistical Office (GUS) has reported that in June 2023, inflation reached 11.5 percent, which represents a decrease by 1.55 percentage points compared to May.  The prices continue to rise although not so fast. This mechanism has been explained by former Monetary Policy Council (RPP) member Marian Noga using the example of onion. “Two years ago onion cost PLN0.50 per kilogram while a year later already PLN1.5, so 200 percent more. If this price increases further by PLN0.50 to PLN2, we refer this PLN0.50 to PLN1.5 and then the increase is not by 200 percent, but by ca. 33 percent,” he said (ICE VARSAVIA)
