The National Food Agency (NFA) has issued a circular requesting sugar businesses to buy white crystal sugar at the farm level for IDR 12,500 per kilogram as of July 3, 2023. This move was taken after the auction price for farmers' sugar during this year's sugar cane milling season fell from IDR 12,440 per kg to IDR 11,650 per kg. The NFA issued the circular to help sugarcane farmers maintain a minimum price of IDR 12,500 per kg, aiming to increase farmers' income. The new NFA regulation sets the HPP for sugar at the farm level at IDR 12,500 per kg, higher than the old  Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) of IDR 11,500 per kg. The sales reference price for sugar consumption at IDR 14,500 per kg, specifically for eastern Indonesia, is set at IDR 15,500 per kg.The NFA and related ministries have harmonized the Draft Amendment to NFA Regulation Number 11 of 2022, but the results of the revised regulation are still in the process of being enacted. The National Executive Board of the Indonesian People's Sugar Cane Farmers Association (APTRI) has conveyed the matter to the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and NFA through a letter of application dated June 20, 2023. APTRI expressed appreciation for the government's efforts and hopes that the auction price for farmer sugar can be above IDR 12,500 per kg.
