Karazhanbasmunai lost production totals over 23,000 tonnes of oil in 2023 due to power outage accidents caused by MAEKOil production losses of Karazhanbasmunai JSC caused by power outage accidents through MAEK’s fault have totaled over 23,000 tonnes this year, the company said in a press release.“This year, oil production losses have totaled over 23,000 tonnes because of 22 cases of power outage or power supply restrictions from MAEK LLP,” the press release says.On Monday evening, the power supply was disrupted in the Atyrau region following equipment failure at MAEK, the supplier of electricity, heat and water. As a result of the accident, a number of enterprises in the region had to shut down their production processes, including the Atyrau refinery.According to KazMunayGas, as many as 11 oil pumping stations of KazTransOil JSC in the Atyrau and the Mangistau regions have had to be shut down, and three water pumping stations of Main Water Pipeline LLP have been shut down as well. Also, Karazhanbasmunai JSC has had to suspend the operation of over 2,400 wells, MangistauMunaiGas has had to bring to a halt 1,131 wells in the Kalamkas and Zhetybay fields, and Embamunaigas JSC have suspended the oil production at 1,809 wells. Ozenmunaigas JSC has shut down 30 reinjection pumps in the Ozen and Karamandybas fields.Karazhanbasmunai JSC was created in February 1994 on the basis of Karazhanbastermneft, a pilot oil and gas producing organization. Karazhanbasmunai JSC is owned by China’s CITIC (50%) and Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (50%). Karazhanbasmunai is a sole owner of a license for development of the Karazhanbas oil and gas field in west Kazakhstan until June 7, 2035.MAEK LLP is owned by the local government of the Mangistau region.
