EXPORT RESTRICTIONS ON FOOD AND CRITICAL RAW MATERIALS IN THE G20 COUNTRIES are Rising

Export restrictions implemented by G20 member countries are becoming increasingly widespread, affecting global supply chains, causing increased commodity prices, and potentially causing food crises in importing countries. The World Trade Organization (WTO)'s Monitoring Report on Trade in the G20 Countries highlights the slowdown in global trade growth, with growth expected to slow from 2.7% in 2022 to 1.7 in 2023. The report highlights the importance of addressing global uncertainty and export restrictions to maintain a stable global trade volume. Indonesia has faced export restrictions due to the implementation of the EU's Renewable Energy Direction (RED) II policy and the implementation of the European Union's Deforestation and Climate Change (EUDR) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Indonesia also practices export restrictions, such as enforcing domestic demand obligations for cooking oil and raw materials, and banning exports of nickel ore and bauxite. The Indonesian Trade Security Committee is investigating the extension of trade safeguard measures on imports of cigarette paper and non-porous wrapping paper. The country is considering litigation or dispute resolution through the WTO trial. Researchers at the University of Indonesia (LPEM UI) believe Indonesia needs to sharpen negotiations on EUDR through the RI-EU Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (IEU CEPA) and anticipate EU requests as compensation for EUDR relaxation. The palm oil industry's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can help reduce deforestation rates and contribute to the country's economic growth.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/07/05/restriksi-ekspor-pangan-dan-bahan-baku-kritis-g20-marak (ICE GIACARTA)
