Kashagan suspends oil production due to power outage – mass mediaThe Kashagan project has suspended oil production following the Monday power outage in the region, petrocouncil.kz writes on Friday.“It has come to our knowledge that the recent power outage in the Atyrau and Mangistau regions, NCOC's Bolashak Unit (Karabatan) was shut down for more than 5 hours, which resulted in the suspension of oil production at Kashagan," petrocouncil.kz said on Telegram.Interfax-Kazakhstan sent on July 3 a query to North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) asking if the Monday power outage in the region had affected the production processes at Kashagan. However, the company has not given any reply yet.Kashagan is Kazakhstan’s first offshore oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea. It is the largest international investment project in the country. Commercial operation at Kashagan began on November 1, 2016.NCOC, the operator of the Kashagan project, is owned by KMG Kashagan B.V. (16.877%), Shell Kazakhstan Development B.V. (16.807%), Total EP Kazakhstan (16.807%), Agip Caspian Sea B.V. (16.807%), ExxonMobil Kazakhstan Inc. (16.807%), CNPC Kazakhstan B.V. (8.333%), and Inpex North Caspian Sea Ltd. (7.563%).On July 3, the power supply was disrupted in the Atyrau region following equipment failure at MAEK, the supplier of electricity, heat and water. As a result of the accident, a number of enterprises in the region had to shut down their production processes, including the Atyrau refinery. (ICE ALMATY)
