CHICKEN FARMERS CALL FOR CORN IMPORTS TO STABILIZE FEED PRICES

The National Food Agency (Bapanas) has raised concerns about a surge in chicken prices due to the high price of corn, the main input for chicken feed. The price of corn has reached Rp 6,000 per kilogram, higher than the reference price of Rp 4,200 per kilogram. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo also emphasized the issue during a visit to a traditional market. National Poultry Breeders Association head Herry Dermawan stated a shortage of corn in the market, with nationwide supplies expected to fall to 650,000 tonnes next month, well short of the monthly demand of around 800,000 tonnes. Herry called for the reopening of corn imports to stabilize corn prices until the harvest period brings additional supply. The government has not opened the door to imports to keep corn prices stable for domestic farmers, but will wait for the harvest and facilitate corn distribution from Sumbawa to Java to maintain a balance between supply and demand. Bapanas has instructed Bulog to reactivate the Corn Dryer Center (CDC) to stockpile corn in the harvest period for market intervention when supply is low.Link di fonte: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2022/07/24/indonesia-could-set-up-farm-in-batam-to-export-fresh-chickens-to-singapore.html (ICE GIACARTA)
