MINISTRY OF ELECTRICITY AND SCATEC TO ESTABLISH 5GW WIND STATION WITH $5B INVEST

The Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Norwegian company Scatec signed an agreement today to establish a wind power plant project with a production capacity of 5 gigawatts (GW), in West Sohag, with $5 billion in investments.The agreement will provide a plot of land for the construction of a wind power plant project in West Sohag. This project contributes to achieving Egypt's goal of making renewable energy contribute to 42% of the country's energy mix by 2030.The signing ceremony was attended by the Egyptian Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Electrcity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, and Norway's Ambassador to Egypt and Libya, Hilde Klemetsdal.The project will provide about 8,000 job opportunities during the construction period, while providing about 300 permanent jobs, according to Shaker’s statement.The electricity minster stated that this project confirms Egypt’s ability Egypt to attract foreign direct investment in the field of renewable energy, pointing to the comparative advantages of Egypt providing the lands necessary to produce a huge volume of electricity from renewable energy, and its geographical location that enables it to export green energy to Europe.
