CROATIA: EXPORTS UP 6.7% IN FIRST 5 MONTHS OF 2023, IMPORTS ROSE BY 1.4%

According to the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) preliminary data published on Friday on the value of Croatian merchandise trades during the first five months of this year, exports totaled EUR 9.6 billion, and marked a significant increase of 6.7% when compared to the same five-month period in 2022, Croatian media report. Imports also experienced a modest growth of 1.4%, and amounted to EUR 16.5 billion.During this five-month period, the foreign trade deficit totaled EUR 6.9 billion, with exports covering 58.2% of imports, while comparatively, this coverage percentage was slightly lower that in the same period of 2022, which it was 55.4%.According to the DZS data, goods worth EUR 6.6 billion were exported to European Union (EU) Member States, which was a 5% increase from the corresponding period in 2022. Similarly, the value of imported goods from the EU member states was up by 4.8% to EUR 12.6 billion.Amongst the non-EU countries, the DZS statistical data indicates a significant growth in exports, as they were up by 10.5% to EUR 3 billion, while simultaneously imports from non-EU countries recorded a decline of 8.1%, to EUR 3.9 billion.The DZS additionally reported other relevant trade data for 1Q2023, during which it showed exports rose by 9.6% to EUR 7.6 billion, while imports recorded a more moderate increase of 3% to EUR 13.1 billion, but they support a positive trend for Croatian merchandise exports, with notable growth recorded in both EU and non-EU trade.
