SWPC EXTENDS RAS MOHAISEN DEADLINE BY THREE MONTHS

Qualified bidders have been granted a three-month extension for the submission of proposals for the contract to develop a new desalination plant using seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) technology in Ras Mohaisen in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) set 1 October as the last day to submit proposals for the Ras Mohaisen independent water project (IWP). SWPC tendered the contract in December, with proposals initially expected to be submitted on 8 May, which was extended to the end of June. In May 2021, SWPC announced the following firms could participate in the tendering process: Acciona Agua (Spain) Acwa Power (local) Cobra Instalaciones Y Servicios (Spain) FCC Aqualia (Spain) Kahrabel (UAE) Malakoff International (Malaysia) / Kindasa Water Services (local) Marubeni Corporation (Japan) Power and Water Utility Company for Jubail and Yanbu (Marafiq) / Alfanar  (local) Rawafid al-Hadara (local) Utico (UAE) / Mowah (local) A total of 44 companies submitted interest in bidding for the contract in November 2020. The Ras Mohaisen IWP scheme will have a design capacity of 300,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d). It is part of a programme to develop 16 IWPs under SWPC’s latest seven-year planning statement.  The client expects the plant to reach commercial operation by the third quarter of 2026. Ras Mohaisen is about 300 kilometres south of Mecca, on the Red Sea coast in Saudi Arabia’s Western Region. (ICE RIYADH)
