SUPPORTING THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE 2060 "NET ZERO EMISSION" TARGET

Indonesia is promoting the use of new and renewable energy (EBT) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 12.5 percent and net zero emissions by 2060. The government is reducing current energy use, promoting electric vehicles, mandatory bioefuels, and efficient energy. The New Energy and Renewable Energy Law (UU EBET) will be implemented in 2023, and the regional general energy planning policy will be revised to adapt to the NZE 2060 target. Stakeholders, such as PT Pertamina and PT PLN, are supporting the government's efforts to achieve the NZE in 2060. Pertamina is implementing six green business initiatives, including biofuel production, renewable energy development, carbon sinks, clean hydrogen, batteries, EV ecosystems, and carbon trading. The reduction in emissions in 2060 is estimated to contribute around 2% to the national NZE aspirations. Pertamina NRE is implementing efforts to support the NZE 2060 target by decarbonizing fossil fuel-based power plants, increasing EBT generator capacity, and supporting infrastructure. The company has canceled 13.3 gigawatts of steam power plants and replaced 1.1 GW with EBT generators, reducing emissions by 300 million tons. The company is also de-dieselizing 1 GW of diesel power plants, using co-firing technology to reduce coal use. The government and PLN are drafting the 2021-2030 RUPTL to become the greenest RUPTL in Indonesia, with 51.6 percent of the additional generating capacity coming from EBT generators.PLN is also implementing digitalization transformation and offering discounted charging rates for electric vehicles. The government's commitment and support from stakeholders are expected to help realize the NZE target in 2060 or sooner.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3630483/mendukung-capaian-target-net-zero-emission-2060 (ICE GIACARTA)
