KAZAKHSTAN-POWER-PLANTS-REPAIR

Kazakh government to spend 100 bln tenge every year on power plant repairsAbout 100 billion tenge will be allocated for the repairs of Kazakhstan’s heat and power plants every year through short-term investment programs, Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said."The shortfall in the financing will be covered from public money in the amount of about 100 billion tenge that will be provided every year on a repayment basis for the electric power market through short-term investment programs for major repairs of the power generation equipment of the power plants,” Satkaliyev said at a Wednesday meeting of the government. The provided money – 100 billion tenge – will be repaid from the electric power tariffs, he added."We have calculated necessary investment, which will be financed from higher power tariffs of the power plants as necessary for modernization. The current tariffs already have an investment component. We will increase the tariff to cover the remaining portion of the investment," the minister told journalist on the sidelines of the government meeting. The total amount needed for major repairs of the heat and power plants in Kazakhstan makes up 182 billion tenge. As much as 93 billion tenge of this amount is already included in the existing tariffs, leaving a shortfall of 88 billion tenge, which cannot be paid by the power plants because their revenue does not allow them to finance repairs and modernization themselves, according to the minister.
