SWCC TENDERS RAS AL-KHAIR DESALINATION CONTRACT

Saudi Arabia’s Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has invited companies to submit proposals by 10 August for a contract to build a water desalination plant in Ras al-Khair. The planned seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) plant will have a capacity of 200,000 cubic metres a day (cm/d). The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract is expected to be executed within 30 months from the award date. The procurement process is under way for other SWRO projects using an EPC model in Saudi Arabia. The SWCC had received bids for the contract to build the second phase of the Shuaibah water desalination plant in Saudi Arabia. A team comprising the local firms Wetico and Alfanar and Italy’s Fisia Italimpianti submitted proposals for the project’s EPC contract on 26 March. The proposed SWRO plant in Shuaibah will have a design capacity of 545,000 cm/d. The water utility also tendered a contract to construct a greenfield reverse osmosis (RO)-based desalination plant in Yanbu. The project will have a design capacity of 500,000 cm/d. The plant will be constructed on a 21-hectare area beside the existing desalination and power complex in Yanbu. (ICE RIYADH)
