Samruk-Kazyna gets approval for gasoline and gas price riseSovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna is working with the government of Kazakhstan and the presidential administration in order to ensure that the tariffs of the portfolio companies are just and fair, Samruk-Kazyna said in a press release on Thursday.Samryk-Kazyna implies a rise in tariffs, for preferential tariffs and prices cause “a chronic lack of financing and impossibility to modernize the worn-out infrastructure”.“A change in tariffs has been approved for the following companies: National Company KazMunayGas JSC (an increase in retail prices for fuel, oil and lubricants), QazaqGaz (a rise in the wholesale and retail prices for gas and the introduction of new prices for large enterprises and mining farms), Samruk-Energy JSC (power tariffs), National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (tariffs on railway services),” the press release says.Samruk-Kazyna will provide 1.2 trillion tenge worth of subsidies for the economy of Kazakhstan, according to the press release.“The mail goal of the Fund is to keep the tariff growth within the target inflation band of 10-12% and to ensure social stability,” Samruk-Kazyna said.Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC was organized in 2008 through a merger of Kazyna Sustainable Development Fund and Samruk Holding for State Assets Management. Samruk-Kazyna owns and operates strategic assets of Kazakhstan, including Air Astana, Kazakhtelecom, Kazatomprom, KazMunayGas, KazPost, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KEGOC and others.Samruk-Energy JSC, organized in 2007, is solely owned by Sovereign Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna JSC. The company specializes in generation, distribution and sales of electricity and heat as well as coal production. Samruk-Energy owns Ekibastuz GRES-1 LLP, Ekibastuz GRES-2 JSC, Bogatyr-Komir LLP, Almaty Power Plants JSC, Moinak GES JSC, Shardara GES JSC and others.National Company KazMunayGas JSC is the national operator for exploration, production, processing and transportation of hydrocarbons. The company represents the state interests in the oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan. KazMunayGas is owned by Samruk-Kazyna National Wealth Fund (87.42%) and by the National Bank of Kazakhstan (9.58%); the other 3% of the shares are free-float.Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is a transport, warehousing and distribution company, which is part of Kazakhstan’s National Wealth Fund Samruk-Kazyna. KTZ operates the country’s railways, the infrastructure of seaports and airports, transportation and warehousing facilities.QazaqGaz (formerly KazTransGas) is the national gas operator in Kazakhstan, including gas exploration, production, transportation and distribution. QazaqGaz operates gas pipelines totaling about 76,000 km in length, including 20,000 km of large pipelines with a yearly throughput capacity of 267.8 billion cubic meters of gas and gas distribution networks, which are 56,000 km long.
