Kazakhstan's largest Chinese importer of wheat wants to expand imports of other cropsMinister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev and Vice President of COFCO Mr. Ze Zhu discussed prospects for expanding exports of more Kazakh crops to China, the Ministry said."The parties discussed the import opportunities for other crops from the Food Corporation, such as flax, barley, sunflower, and rapeseed," the Ministry said following the visit of COFCO top managers to Kazakhstan."COFCO, the largest importer of Kazakh wheat, visited the elevators in the Akmola region, observed the operation of handling docks, and the grain farming research and production center in Shortandy town,  the Akmola region," the ministry said.The Minister outlined Kazakhstan's potential to produce high-quality organic products and pointed to the record harvest of 22 million tonnes of grains and legumes last year, including 16.4 million tonnes of wheat.Karashukeyev pledged that Kazakhstan would meet its end of the deal under the export contracts signed by COFCO and Food Corporation in China for the supply of 75,000 tonnes of wheat.Karashukeyev said earlier that Kazakhstan was expected to export one million tonnes of wheat to China and to increase exports in the future.The export of Kazakh wheat to China was suspended in 2021 due to coronavirus restrictions.In the 2022/2023 marketing year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan announced the export target for grain and flour at 9-9.5 million tonnes.In May, the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture invited Chinese importers to visit Kazakh elevators.COFCO is a Chinese state-owned food processing holding company.
