BALI TO IMPOSE $10 TOURIST TAX STARTING NEXT YEAR

Bali's "Island of Gods" will charge tourists Rp 150,000 (US$10) to maintain its culture starting next year, officials said Wednesday. Tourist-dependent Bali capitalizes on its fame to enhance its coffers and preserve its tropical appeal. Governor I Wayan Koster told lawmakers that foreign tourists only pay a fee once in Bali. He said foreign tourists entering Bali from abroad or elsewhere in Indonesia must pay the fee electronically. Domestic Indonesian tourists will not be charged. After enforcing a zero-tolerance policy, Bali saw almost 2 million tourists last year. Koster said authorities did not expect the increased charge to dissuade visitors. It's fine. "We will use it for the environment, culture, and better infrastructure to make Bali travel more comfortable and safe," he told reporters. After a slew of rowdy tourists disrespected the Hindu island's traditions, the palm-fringed attraction promised to crack down. Last month, Bali immigration deported a Danish motorcyclist who flashed. In April, a Russian woman was expelled from the island for uploading a naked photo of herself in front of a sacred tree. After pressure from Bali's immigration office, the local administration released a tourist guide in June.Link di fonte: https://www.thejakartapost.com/business/2023/07/12/bali-to-impose-10-tourist-tax-starting-next-year.html (ICE GIACARTA)
