The rapid rail link project between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia entered the implementation phase when the Ministry of Public Works chaired a meeting that was attended by government agencies, including the ministries of Finance, Electricity and Water, Defense, Oil, and the Kuwait Municipality, to complete the procedures related to the project. The link will be via a high-speed train, or the so-called magnetic train or “bullet train”, between Kuwait and the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The advisory study for the project will take 6 months following which a joint agreement is expected to be signed between the two countries.The MPW said in its letter to the parties participating in the meeting, “Given the importance of the strategic agreement on the railway link project, it is necessary to expedite coordination between the competent authorities to remove any obstacles that may hinder the project.” The letter indicated the importance of facilitating the procedures taken in this regard to speed up its completion.it is worth noting that the Saudi Council of Ministers had approved, in its meeting on May 23, authorizing the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services or his representative to discuss with the Kuwaiti side a draft agreement between the governments of the two countries regarding the railway link project between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
