UKRAINE CONTINUES TO DEVELOP LOGISTICS ACROSS ITS WESTERN BORDER

Over the course of the full-scale war, Ukraine has been actively developing logistics across its western border with the EU. More than 60% of Ukraine’s exports today go to the European Union, so this is a strategic direction. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a Government session on 18 July.“We have opened two new checkpoints on the border with Romania and a checkpoint using temporary infrastructure on the border with Poland. We are expanding and upgrading access roads and the railway, and we have introduced an electronic queuing mechanism that saves time for people and businesses. We are considering joint customs and border control with the EU countries,” the Prime Minister said. The second important logistics area, according to the Prime Minister, is the Danube cluster: the ports of Izmail, Ust-Dunaisk and Reni. According to Denys Shmyhal, they tripled their cargo traffic during the full-scale war and have huge development potential.“We are working to increase its capacity. In particular, through private investment and public-private partnerships,” the Head of Government noted. The Prime Minister also highlighted positive developments in the energy sector. Thus, for the first time, Ukraine imported electricity from Poland via a modernised interstate power transmission line. It was launched in May by Ukrenergo specialists and their Polish counterparts. As Denys Shmyhal noted, on Sunday the line added 800 MW of capacity to the Ukrainian power system during the evening peak. (ICE LEOPOLI)
