KAZAKHSTAN-PERSIAN-GULF-TRADE

Kazakhstan can boost exports to Persian Gulf states - TokayevKazakhstan is ready to increase exports to the Persian Gulf states by $400 million in the near future, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said."We have a lot of possibilities to significantly increase mutual trade. To make this happen, we need to enlarge the volume of goods we can trade in. For example, Kazakhstan is ready to increase exports of 100 types of goods for a total value of about $400 million to the Gulf countries in the near future," Tokayev said at the summit Central Asia + Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) in Jeddah. The president’s speech at the summit was published by his press service on Thursday.Tokayev noted a steady growth in trades between the Central Asian countries and the GCC member states over the past few years. "However, the figures do not reflect our real potential," he said.Tokayev mentioned investment as the second direction of cooperation."Over the years of [Kazakhstan’s] independence, the Gulf states have invested about $3.6 billion in the economy of Kazakhstan, and we are interested in boosting the investment cooperation. To this end, we are carrying out large-scale economic reforms aimed at diversification of our economy, including the creation of a most favorable environment for foreign investment," Tokayev said. The Business Council that was recently established by Kazakhstan and Saudi Arabia is meant to become an important platform for the realization of the trade and investment potential of the two countries. "We are ready to launch similar cooperation mechanisms with all member states of the Cooperation Council. We welcome our partners to make the best use of advanced [financial] instruments offered by the Astana International Financial Center," the president said. (ICE ALMATY)
