DIRECTOR GENERAL: INDONESIA'S RESILIENT AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS OVERCOME the food crisis

Indonesia's Director General of Horticulture, Prihasto Setyanto, praised the country's resilience in dealing with the global food crisis, highlighting the significant increase in agricultural exports from 2019 to 2022. Exports were highest during the COVID-19 pandemic, with a 36% increase between 2020 and 2021. Horticultural commodities also contributed significantly, reaching US$468 million in 2019 and $735 million in 2022. The exchange rate for horticultural farmers has also increased significantly, currently at 112.93. Prihasto emphasized the importance of horticulture as a source of economic income for Indonesians. One program from the Ministry of Agriculture is to grow horticultural villages to facilitate marketing. However, collecting 200 tons of mangosteen for export to China requires significant energy and costs, which can weaken Indonesia's competitiveness. The current program aims to form horticultural villages, focusing on specific areas for different crops, such as mangosteens and longans, to facilitate easy marketing. The Ministry of Agriculture is working to address these challenges through the horticultural village program.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3644805/dirjen-ekspor-pertanian-ketangguhan-indonesia-atasi-krisis-pangan (ICE GIACARTA)
