Farmers in Central Java can make money from cow dung, as it is the main component of a biogas reactor. Eni Lestari, head of the New and Renewable Energy (EBT) Development Section of the Central Java Province Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Department, explained that cow dung is the main component of the biogas reactor. In East Java, 22 villages that received the Energy Independent Village (DME) award were invited to visit the practice of using EBT. In Pasuruan Regency, the Setia Kawan Dairy Farmers Cooperative (KPSP) uses cows for milk and manure, producing organic biogas for fertilizing oranges. The biogas produced in the reactor will be used as energy, and the remaining fermentation product will be in the form of semi-solid dung or bio-slurry.KPSP Setia Kawan also buys bio slurry from biogas installations in farmers' homes, which is processed into organic fertilizer for further re-marketing in East Java and Lombok Island.
