BEWARE OF PRESSURE ON WORLD FOOD STOCKS DUE TO EXPORT BAN

India's rice export ban after Russia left the Black Sea Grain Initiative might strain world food supplies. Indonesia must plan ahead as food-producing nations stockpile supplies for domestic use. The restriction on non-basmati and broken rice, which accounts for 40% of global rice exports, has damaged land and raised Indian retail rice prices by 3% monthly and 11.5 percent annually. Non-basmati rice stopped being exported at 10 million tons, while parboiled rice will reach 7.4 million tons in 2022. Bayu Krisnamurthi, a member of Perhepi's Advisory Board, feels India's rice export prohibition indicates global food trade pressure. Indonesia must anticipate Vietnam and Thailand prioritizing domestic production due to the embargo.Since Vietnam and Thailand are world rice producers, foreign market players are looking to them after India's rice export prohibition. Due to the drought, rice millers and exporters may postpone purchase orders. Indonesia can prepare for rice-producing countries' protection policies by keeping farmers motivated and meeting domestic demand.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/07/23/waspadai-tekanan-pada-stok-pangan-dunia-akibat-larangan-ekspor (ICE GIACARTA)
