BEAUTY INDUSTRY GROWTH SUPPORTED BY IMPORTS OF RAW MATERIALS

The post-Covid-19 economic recovery is predicted to boost Indonesia's beauty and skin care sectors. From 2023 through 2028, the skincare and personal care industries will grow by 4.59 percent annually. Cosmetic sector participants increased by 20.6 percent from 819 in 2021 to 913 in 2022. Many companies import raw materials, especially for cosmetics, which might be risky if the exporting company in the country creates beauty items and exports processed products. To compete, the domestic beauty sector requires new raw materials. The national beauty industry still uses imported raw ingredients, according to Acting Director General of the Pharmaceutical and Textile Chemical Industry (IKFT) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Ignatius Warsito. To diversify the industry, the government encourages essential oil and seaweed manufacturing. The country's population of 275.77 million will help it become the fifth-largest cosmetics market on the globe in the next 10–15 years.A government regulation (PP) provides a 200 percent tax exemption for vocational activities and a 300 percent exemption for research and development operations. This will inspire the domestic cosmetics sector to make more global-competitive products. Indonesian cosmetics can be exported to Southeast Asia due to climate, socio-cultural, and purchasing power reasons. The cosmetics industry is growing rapidly, according to Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) Head Penny K. Lukito, with most new players coming from startups or MSMEs. The government promotes pharmaceutical industry growth to boost local industry independence, especially cosmetics.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/07/23/pertumbuhan-industri-kecantikan-ditopang-impor-bahan-baku (ICE GIACARTA)
