Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Turkmenistan for 2022 amounted to $936 million, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) informed in its World Investment 2023 report, released on July 5. According to the report, Turkmenistan ranked 3rd in the Central Asian region by FDI inflows. The country’s FDI inward stock stood at $41.537 million for the reporting period. Among the major investment projects in 2022, there is a $7.5 billion extension of the oil extraction activity of Emirates National Oil Company (United Arab Emirates) in Turkmenistan. Foreign direct investment is mainly directed to the development of the Turkmen fuel and energy sector, the chemical industry and agriculture. (ICE İSTANBUL)
