The Visakhapatnam Port plans to become an eco-friendly port through the augmentation of 15 MW solar power projects and introduction of Shore to Ship project and Green Tugs, M Angamuthu, Chairperson of Visakhapatnam Port Authority said.“We intend to improve our cargo handling following best available Key Port Perfomance Indicators,” he said.These green port initiatives are similar to European ports such as Rotterdam and Hamburg.Tugs, used to pull and push big cargo ships, and guide them into and out of a port, are operated by bunker oil but the port plans to introduce electricity operated green tugboats.
