INDIA EXPORTED TELECOM GEAR WORTH RS 6,911 CRORE TILL MAY 31: MINISTER CHAUHAN

Telecom equipment worth Rs 6,911 crore has been exported by companies selected under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme till May 31, 2023, the government said Wednesday.The scheme was launched on February 24, 2021, to promote domestic manufacturing of specified telecom and networking products including 4G, 5G products, and also design-led manufacturing in the country.“The companies under the scheme have made an export of Rs 6911 crore up till May 31, 2023,” Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.Further, the minister said India has designed and developed its own 4G/5G technology stacks and the deployment has started in state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).To promote the ecosystem for research & development and make India a global manufacturing hub, the government has taken various initiatives including PLI scheme, a telecom technology development fund scheme and digital communication innovation square (DCIS) under champion services sector scheme.Regarding 5G services, Chauhan said so far, 2,81,948 5G sites have been set up by telecom operators. As per data shared by the Minister, of the total 5G sites, 2,28,689 have been set up by Reliance Jio, 53,223 have been set up by Bharti Airtel.
