ACCELERATE TRANSITION, SOLAR ENERGY BECOMES CHOICE

As the climate situation worsens, solar energy could hasten Indonesia's energy transition. The government wants 23% of energy from new and renewable sources by 2025 and 300 gigawatts (GW) by 2030. In 2022, this aim was only 12.3% achieved, requiring more than half to be completed in less than three years.Indonesia, a tropical country near the equator with lots of land, has significant solar energy potential. The government wants 23% new and renewable energy by 2025, but just 12.3% in 2022. Solar energy will generate 4.3 GW of the 20.9 GW of renewable electricity in 2030. 300 megawatts (MW) of solar panels have been installed nationwide, or 6.9% of the 2030 objective. The government wants investors to construct a domestic solar panel business to promote solar energy. Export bans are also under consideration. Solar power plants (PLTS) can provide 65 GW of electricity in 2030 and 340 GW in 2060; hence, the government is considering them for decarbonization. In the previous five years, PLTS has produced two-thirds of all renewable energy worldwide. PLTS capacity must expand by 4 GW per year, or 10–20 GW per year after 2030, to meet the net zero emission target. This discourse requires policy backing, targets, transparent and sustainable laws, and an integrated ecosystem.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/07/26/percepat-transisi-energi-surya-jadi-pilihan (ICE GIACARTA)
