INDONESIA ADVISED TO PUT IN EXTRA EFFORT TO CONCLUDE CEPA

Due to the EU's bureaucracy, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair recommended Indonesia work harder to finish its trade deal negotiations. On Friday (21/7), Minister Airlangga Hartarto met Tony Blair in his Jakarta office. Minister Hartarto said Blair advised Indonesia on how to secure an EU agreement by the deadline. Tony Blair noted that because the EU has a large bureaucracy, the Indonesia-EU CEPA negotiations would require a strong political push. "Even Tony Blair, who comes from the UK, feels that there is a huge bureaucracy," Minister Hartaro told reporters following the Blair meeting. Airlangga said Indonesia needs to work harder to finish Indonesia-EU CEPA negotiations by 2023. The Trade Ministry reported that Indonesia and the EU agreed on the economic cooperation and capacity-building chapter at the 15th round of discussions in Yogyakarta last week. Indonesia-EU's seventh chapter Anti-fraud clauses, technical trade barriers, and others were also mentioned. The government estimated EUR 30 billion in Indonesia-EU commerce last year, up 14% from 2021. Indonesia exported EUR 19.5 billion to Europe. Brussels will host the 16th round of discussions in late 2023.Link di fonte: https://jakartaglobe.id/business/indonesia-told-to-put-in-extra-effort-for-cepa-talks-with-eu (ICE GIACARTA)
