THE E-COMMERCE MARKET STILL HAS OPPORTUNITY TO GROW

E-commerce, particularly through marketplace platforms, has the potential to grow after social restrictions are lifted. In Indonesia, the e-commerce market is driven by local markets, and the growth trend could be higher than before the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the US has experienced a decline in e-commerce growth due to the return to offline retail. Marketplace platforms must balance transaction fees with service quality and ease of shopping to attract loyal consumers. The pandemic has led to stagnation and fierce competition in online retail, with Amazon reporting 11% annual growth in Q2 2023, while Wayfair has experienced declining sales.Local market players in the US face challenges such as Tiktok, a popular video app, and the growing demand for direct sales to consumers. Tokopedia, a hyperlocal marketing strategy, has quadrupled e-commerce transactions in Southeast Aceh, North Padang Lawas (North Sumatra), Malaka (Nusa Tenggara Timur), Buton (Southeast Celebes), and Teluk Bintuni (West Papua). The company supports Indonesian MSMEs and has over 14 million sales partners, with 70% coming from domestic sources. The COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted e-commerce transactions, with ThenBlank fashion businesses and Luxcrime makeup product businesses experiencing a shift in consumer preferences. Reducing application fees for market seller partners could positively impact sales partners and encourage more flexible marketing campaigns.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/08/07/pasar-e-dagang-belum-stagnan (ICE GIACARTA)
