According to the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) data published on 21 July, the construction industry in Croatia has exhibited a positive growth trend, particularly in building constructions, that has contributed to the overall increase in the construction sector, as the trend of growth in both the seasonally-adjusted and calendar-adjusted volume of construction works continued in May with 1.5% growth month-on-month, and a 3.8% increase year-on-year.These statistics demonstrate an acceleration in the growth of construction works, considering that in April of this year, the growth rate was only 1.1% when compared to April 2022.The rise in construction works can be attributed to an increase in building construction, which grew by 8.1% in May compared to May 2022. However, other types of constructions, such as roads, railways, pipelines, bridges, dams, and sports facilities, experienced a decrease of 2.9% in construction volume.Statistics show on a monthly basis that in May of this year compared to April, the volume of building constructions increased by 3%, while for other types of construction there was a decrease of 0.4%.When considering the original indices, the construction volume in May of this year grew by 3.8% when compared to May of 2022 – and in detail, construction works on buildings increased by 8.1%, whereas other types of construction had a decrease of 2.2%.When comparing the first five months of this year to the same five-month period of last year, the original indices indicate there was a 3.1% growth in construction works.
