CROATIA NEAR TOP IN EU FOOD SECTOR SALES OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTS

According to data publishes on 24 July by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), in 2022, Croatia held a prominent position among leading EU countries with a significant share of the food sector in sales of major industrial products, and that after a pandemic-induced 7% decline in 2020, the EU's industrial production rebounded by 8% in 2021, but growth slowed to 5% in 2022, Croatian media report.Eurostat's data underscored the food sector's importance in Croatia's industrial landscape, highlighting its significant contribution to the country's economic growth.Among EU countries, Croatia, Spain, and the Netherlands demonstrated robust figures: Germany held the largest share, representing a quarter of the total value of industrial product sales in the EU. Together with Italy, France, Spain, Poland, and the Netherlands, these countries accounted for three-quarters of the total sales.Germany's industrial product sales were evenly distributed between the food, metallurgical, and automotive sectors. In contrast, Italy was dominated by the sector of basic metals and metal products, comprising one-third of the total sales value.Notably, Greece outperformed others in terms of the food sector's share in industrial product sales, with a slightly higher than one-third share. Croatia closely followed Greece with a 28% share, while Spain and the Netherlands tied at 27%. Denmark rounded off the top five with a 24% share.The Eurostat data also showed that 4% of industrial production was relocated outside the EU, accounting for 9% of the total value. (ICE ZAGABRIA)
