THE GOVERNMENT PROMISES A 700 MHZ FREQUENCY AUCTION THIS YEAR

The Indonesian government is preparing to auction the 700 megahertz (MHz) frequency spectrum in the remainder of 2023 to support the telecommunications industry in migrating analog television broadcasts to digital terrestrial. The process of migrating analog television broadcasts to digital terrestrial (analog switch off/ASO) in 11 big cities has been completed, and the ASO process in cities and towns outside the Nielsen research target is being worked out. The Ministry of Communication and Informatics is also preparing other frequency spectrums to support the needs of 5G network deployment, such as 3.5 gigahertz (GHz). The revised PP No. 80/2015 is awaiting President Joko Widodo's signature. The availability of sufficient frequency spectrum width is crucial for deploying 5G services, which could add IDR 2,874 trillion to the economy cumulatively from 2021 to 2030. However, the regulatory cost of BHP frequency reaches 14%, making it unfavorable for cellular telecommunications operators. The government must be present to support the deployment of telecommunications services with the latest generation of cellular access technology, such as 5G.Link di fonte: https://www.kompas.id/baca/ekonomi/2023/08/08/pemerintah-janjikan-lelang-frekuensi-700-mhz-harus-tahun-ini (ICE GIACARTA)
