THE GOVERNMENT INTENDS TO INCREASE COAL PRODUCTION BY THE END OF THE YEAR

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources plans to increase national coal production in the second half of 2023, following requests from local producers. Miners with mining permits, including work contracts and Special Mining Business License (IUPK), have presented proposals to augment coal production in the 2023 work plan and budget draft. The ministry recorded coal production at 369.17 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year, accounting for 53.16 percent of this year's national target of 694.5 million tonnes. As of June, Indonesia had exported 249.03 million tonnes of coal and secured 97.17 million tonnes for domestic market obligation (DMO). Lana assured that firms would continue fulfilling their commitments to the DMO, which requires miners to set aside some of their production for local demand at a regulated price. The coal price stood at US$191.6 per tonne in June, down by over 40% year over year from $319. The value of coal exports decreased by 42% yoy to $2.67 billion this June, from $4.6 billion during the same period last year. Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto said that as long as export volume was maintained, the country could weather the impacts of declining commodity prices and maintain economic growth throughout this year, particularly from exports.Link di fonte: https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2019/01/16/pln-to-acquire-coal-mines-to-secure-supply.html (ICE GIACARTA)
