INDIA STARTS PULSES IMPORTS FROM RUSSIA

After crude oil and fertilisers, India has started to import red lentil (masoor) from Russia for the first time for improving domestic supplies and expanding its import base. Trade sources said that because of competitive prices, imports of pulses from Russia have commenced, while traditionally the country has been sourcing these from Canada and Australia. Sources said, that India is looking at entering into a long term contract with countries including Russia and Kazakhstan for imports of the key pulses variety so that the retail prices do not spiral out of control.
