Indonesia's focus on downstreaming and industrialization has stimulated the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) industry, as expertise is needed in designing and building infrastructure for processing raw minerals into value-added products. The government has banned the export of raw minerals in June 2023, ensuring that domestic mining businesses can sell certain unrefined metal minerals abroad. The EPC service industry plays a crucial role in the downstream flow, with data showing that EPC service industry transactions will reach US$8.24 trillion in 2022 and US$9.89 trillion in 2028. Domestic EPC players, such as Rekind, are ready to seize opportunities and benefit from the growth prospects. Rekind has worked on 145 projects with a high level of domestic components, resulting in cost savings of up to 30% of the total project value. Domestic EPC players have a higher commitment to completing projects, as seen in the construction of the Jambaran-Tiung Biru gas field project in Bojonegoro, East Java, and the Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) megaproject in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
