HCMC ADVANCES SUSTAINABLE SUPPLY CHAINS FOR FARM PRODUCE

HCMC – The government of HCMC has initiated plans to promote the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) program and establish sustainable supply chains for local farm produce. The city’s strategies were recently revealed through the signing of various collaborative projects, aiming to enhance agricultural production and boost sales of locally-produced items. These projects encompass the “1,000 OCOP Stories” initiative, the branding of agricultural products in the outlying district of Can Gio, and the creation of a pork exchange in HCMC.The OCOP program specifically targets locally-sourced goods at the village and commune levels, with the objective of increasing rural incomes, generating employment opportunities, enhancing human resources, and preserving cultural values within rural communities.Collaborative efforts will be undertaken by the local e-commerce platform Tiki and relevant departments, including Agriculture-Rural Development and Industry-Trade, to assess the market demand for OCOP products. This activity is aimed to support operations of local manufacturers and distributors.According to officials, these actions are part of HCMC’s efforts to strengthen its role in integrating production and distribution, while fostering agricultural growth, particularly through the establishment of sustainable supply chains. The Department of Trade and Industry also intends to elevate Can Gio’s agricultural products into a distinct HCMC specialty brand.Furthermore, in partnership with the Mercantile Exchange of Vietnam, the city’s relevant departments have signed a cooperative agreement to establish a pork exchange in HCMC.Developed using the MXV’s existing infrastructure, the exchange will operate under mechanisms encompassing spot contracts and futures contracts.Nguyen Duc Dung, deputy director of MVX, said, “The HCMC pork exchange will include trading and payment systems, a goods delivery center, and the facilitation of market information and transactions for various contract types, aligned with international standards.” (ICE HO CHI MINH CITY)
