KAZAKHSTAN-UAE-AGREEMENT

Semurg Invest and AD Ports Group to jointly build a grain terminal at Kuryk SeaportSemurg Invest LLP from Kazakhstan and AD Ports Group from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed a Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement for the construction of cargo handling infrastructure at the Kuryk Seaport on the Caspian Sea, the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development said in a press release on Tuesday.The agreement provides for the construction of a grain terminal and a multifunctional marine terminal called Sarzha at the Kuryk Seaport, according to the press release.The document was signed by the regional CEO of AD Ports Group, Abdulaziz Zayed Al-Shamsi, and the general director of Semurg Invest, Nurzhan Marabayev.“This project would be of significant strategic importance, particularly in the context of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). Forming a joint venture with Semurg would be a key milestone in our Middle Corridor strategy. This strategic move would come at a critical juncture, emphasizing our Group's commitment to expanding our presence in Central Asia,” Abdulaziz Zayed Al-Shamsi is quoted as saying in a Tuesday press release published by AD Ports Group.“The cooperation between our two companies would bring new impulse to the ports development in Kazakhstan considering AD Ports Group’s experience and expertise,” Nurzhan Marabayev said.The project will help increase the capacity of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route by 10 million tonnes a year, he added.The agreement about cooperation with AD Ports Group was reached during the visit of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to the UAE in January 2023.Semurg Invest LLP is the owner and developer of the Sarzha multifunctional marine terminal at the Kuryk Seaport.AD Ports Group owns and operates 10 seaports and terminals (for handling containers and general cargoes) in the UAE and Guinea.The Kuryk Seaport, located 90 kilometers from Aktau, the administrative center of the Mangistau region, is part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route that starts in China and goes to Turkey and European countries through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The handling capacity of the Kuryk seaport is 6 million tonnes of cargo a year. Projects are currently being carried out to expand the seaport infrastructure and increase its handling capacity.
