RI STRESSED THE IMPORTANCE OF ASEAN BEING THE CENTER FOR THE PRODUCTION OF EV

Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif, emphasized the need for the ASEAN region to become a global production center for electric vehicles to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050–2060. The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a three-percent growth in energy demand in ASEAN by 2030, with three-quarters of that demand utilizing fossil fuels. This could lead to an estimated 35 percent increase in carbon emissions by 2020. At the 42nd ASEAN Summit 2023, countries agreed to use electric vehicles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonize the land transportation sector.Technology is crucial for achieving carbon neutrality, and strengthening partnerships to increase technology variety, open access to technology, and equal access to financing is essential. Other efforts to support carbon neutrality include building certification for environmentally friendly and energy-efficient practices, energy efficiency in the industrial sector through electronification, and using environmentally friendly fuels for heavy vehicles. In 2022, Indonesia achieved achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 91.5 million tons of CO2 equivalent, with energy efficiency contributing 22%. In 2023, Indonesia aims to reduce emissions by 116 million tonnes, and in 2024, it aims to reach 142 million CO2 equivalents.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3689793/ri-tekankan-pentingnya-asean-jadi-pusat-produksi-kendaraan-listrik (ICE GIACARTA)
