GAINING PROFIT FROM SOUTHERN BLUEFIN TUNA

The production of southern bluefin tuna (SBT) in Benoa Harbor, Denpasar, Bali, is the largest in the country. In 2022, the total volume of catches reached 770.4 tons, with a production value of Rp. 21.5 billion. The Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT) regulates fishing quotas to maintain the sustainability of the species. Southern bluefin tuna, found in the Indian Ocean, has a high market value due to its high fat flesh. Indonesia is pursuing certification from the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) to increase the economic value of this premium commodity. Good reporting and compliance are key to achieving this label and increasing the quota for catching southern bluefin tuna.Indonesia has increased its quota for catching southern bluefin tuna to 1,123 tonnes per year from 2015–2017, according to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The increase is due to Australia's larger catch quota, which reached 6,238 tons per year. The total limit for catching tuna in 2021–2023 is 17,647 tons, with the commission recommending an increase to 20,647 tons for 2024–2026. Indonesia's tuna production and exports are valued at IDR 22 trillion and IDR 10.6 trillion, respectively.Link di fonte: https://www.antaranews.com/berita/3689649/mengerek-cuan-dari-tuna-sirip-biru-selatan (ICE GIACARTA)
