Kazakh-Georgian JV starts construction of a multimodal terminal in PotiKazakhstan’s PTC Holding Group has completed dismantling work as necessary to build a multimodal terminal at the Poti Seaport (Georgia) and has now started construction work, the company said in a press release on Friday"The construction of the terminal will be Kazakhstan’s first infrastructure project at Poti, which is one of the largest seaports in Georgia and a very important point on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which is extremely important for Kazakh companies in the current global political situation, as well as for the diversification of transport routes," PTC Holding CEO Timur Karabayev said during a groundbreaking ceremony in Poti.The company expects investment in the project to total about $15-$20 million, which will be equally provided by the Kazakh and Georgian partners.The active phase of the construction will begin in September 2023, the first stage of the project will be put into operation in the first quarter of 2024. The handling capacity of the terminal will be 450,000 TEUs per year, according to the press release.On June 2, 2023 PTC Holding Group signed in Tbilisi an investment agreement with Georgian partners on the construction of a multimodal terminal at the Poti Seaport, Georgia, for the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR). The partners established a joint venture, JSC POTI TRANSTERMINAL, on a parity basis to operate the project. (ICE ALMATY)
