Egyptian President Abdelfattah El-Sisi ordered government officials to continue working towards developing the telecommmunication sector and supporting growing startups in the field. El-Sisi held a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, Chairperson of the financial affairs of the Armed Forces Ahmed Al-Shazly, and Director of the signal department of the Armed Forces Bakr Al-Bayoumi. During the meeting, El-Sisi ordered  the support of the industry through launchingtraining and qualification programs, increasing material capacity, motivating upcoming startups, and building on human cadres. The plan to support telecom sector involves cooperating with major international companies, upgrading the market as per the modern requirements, preparing Egyptian youth to participate in international competitions, and keeping pace with the developmening sector. Throughout the meeting, El-Sisi pointed towards improving mobile phone services and enhancing the internet infrastructure, to be able to support heavy use. In addition, discussion on improving the local manufacturing of electronics and electronic circut in Egypt was shed light on.President’s spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy stated that the president has already been briefed on the Unified Government Network project, which aims to connect the state’s administratives and ensure government data circulation in a safe, fast, and efficient manner. Furthermore, the president held with Madbouly and Talaat a different meeting, to disucss the current situation and achievements regarding the “Digital Egypt” initiative and other ICT projects at work. Digital Egypt is a governmental initiative aiming to digitize governmental services nationwide. Towards the end of the meeting, the discussion focused on developing Egypt’s capabilities to develop and expand in the telecom sector in order to increase digital exports.  (ICE IL CAIRO)
