CROATIA: IN FIRST SEVEN MONTHS OF 2023, EXPORTS UP 0.2%, IMPORTS DOWN 1%

According to the State Bureau of Statistics (DZS) preliminary data published on 8 September, the value of Croatian merchandise exports in the first seven months of 2023 was EUR 13.3 billion, which is 0.2% more compared to the same period in 2022, while imports fell by 1%, to EUR 23.2 billion, Croatian media report.The foreign trade deficit in the first seven months was EUR 9.85 billion, and the coverage of imports by exports was 57.5%, LIDER reports.  At the same time last year, it was 56.8%, the DZS data show.In the first seven months of this year, goods worth EUR 9.1 billion were exported to European Union (EU) Member States which is 1.1% less than in the same period last year, LIDER reports. The DZS data also show that the value of imported goods from EU Member States increased by 4.1%, to EUR 17.6 billion.Statistics for exports to non-EU countries show a growth of 3.2%, to EUR 4.2 billion, with a simultaneous drop in goods imports from non-EU countries, by 14.3%, to EUR 5.6 billion.The DZS also published corrected data for the first six months of this year, according to which the value of Croatian merchandise exports in the first six months of this year amounted to EUR 11.5 billion, which is 2.8% more compared to the same period in 2022, while imports fell by 0.3% to EUR 19.7 billion, LIDER reports.Croatia's most important foreign trade partners are EU member states, primarily Germany, Italy and Slovenia, and in the first six months of 2023, trade with the EU accounted for 68.9% of total exports and 75.7% of total imports.
